The Prescod Sisters

Meet our favorite sister duo, Danielle & Gabby Prescod.

Taking inspiration from their favorite waltzes in The Nutcracker, they designed two gorgeous holiday kits — The Danielle Kit and The Gabby Kit.

These kits are also offered as a bundle, so you can virtually design with a loved one this holiday season.

Tell us about yourselves!

D- To keep it simple, I am the big sis. I am a Leo, someone who really likes to read a lot and tea is my favorite drink. I love exercising. Almost all of my hobbies involve physical activity. I ride horses once a week, which is also a way that Gabby and I spend time together. We have a dog named Harry Potter and we are borderline codependent on each other and our parents.

G- That makes me the lil sis! I’m a Taurus with a Scorpio moon and a rising Leo so I’m definitely a lot. I work in fashion and love to shop luxury consignment because I'm very passionate about the environment and try as best I can to have a circular closet. We grew up playing tennis so that’s something we do as a family and it brings me so much joy, especially since you can play and be socially distant.

What first inspired you to create the @ThePrescodSisters Instagram?

D- We started getting hired a lot for jobs together and so for practical purposes, we made a separate page. We are also working on a podcast.

G- It’s something that just kind of evolved naturally because there are so many pictures of us together and then when we started getting hired together, we figured we needed somewhere for all this content to live and make sense and it didn make sense for it to be on our personal pages.

As successful, working women, how have you achieved a healthy work-life balance?

D- It’s still a work in progress for me. I am a workaholic and I have come to recognize this as a very poor quality. It is extremely difficult for me to stop working. I almost don’t know what to do with myself. I hate that. I try to work on it as much as I can but it gets harder and harder the more we work from home.

G- I think that’s the goal but I’m not quite there yet. I was very much of the mindset that work was my life for a long time solely because that’s where I spent the majority of my time. It was almost like what I assume pledging a frat or sorority was like. We all have this shared sense of giving everything to our jobs at our personal expense and that bonds you and since everyone is going through the same experience, it’s ok. Also working in fashion, there are a lot of extracurricular things that are a part of your job description that happen outside of the office, so you feel like you’re working all time because essentially, you are. But I’ve come to realize that is absolutely not ok so I’m trying to be better about taking more time for myself, especially now that we are working from home.

WFH — Yay or nay?

D- Yay, if you have an appropriate workspace to do it.

G- Absolutely! If you have the means and opportunity to.

You’re both vocal about your views and beliefs on your personal Instagram pages — have you always been this way? How do you view your platforms and any responsibilities that come with it?

D- In my opinion, the more secure I became in my career, the more I felt galvanized to be more expressive about my thoughts and opinions. I see the change as directly proportional. In my early years in this industry, I was so afraid to rock the boat and my position felt so precarious, that I never wanted to say anything at all. However, the more time I spent in it, the more that I observed that a lot of the problems that persist do so because no one actually makes any attempt to change things. I do not think that silence serves anyone or anything. I think that if you have people looking at or listening to you for whatever reason, you should have something useful to say. I am not interested in being a human billboard. I am interested in bettering myself and the world around me.

G- We both were always very outspoken about what we thought was right growing up and we went to an all girls high school that deeply influenced how comfortable we felt expressing ourselves. But I agree that earlier in my career, I was very timid in voicing my opinions too. But with the emergence of social media and having some kind of platform, it feels irresponsible and  certainly a pointed choice to remain silent. Everyone that uses social media, no matter how big or small their following is, has the ability to reach people so it’s important to use that opportunity to try to make things better.

With everything going on in the world, how do you prioritize your mental health?

D- I take time for myself to make sure I am exercising so I go to private Pilates right now as much as I can and I horseback ride as much as I can.

G- I talk to my family everyday, often multiple times a day. As Danielle said, we are borderline codependent so talking to them grounds me. Also tennis!

You both are floral design naturals — where did you learn to do it? Any tips for beginners?

D- I think working in fashion you give and get a lot of flowers so we have had many years to form opinions! I also worked for Taylor Tomasi Hill for many years and she founded a floral business so I feel like I picked up some things by observation and osmosis.

G- LOL flattered that you guys think I’m a natural at this. Honestly, it was a little intimidating at first, but I just like to have fun with it and see where it goes. It’s such a great quarantine activity.

First place you want to travel after covid?

D- Anywhere! A beach probably.

G- Wyoming to see our best friend and her family, and then Austria to stay at the Von Trapp family house, which is actually a hotel!

Any shows/books you’re binging right now?

D- I am watching: The Crown, finally. Real Housewives of Potomac and Salt Lake City! And I am reading Black Buck.

G- Obsessed with The Undoing, Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, and The Teacher. Books wise, I’m also reading Black Buck (I love it) and Dawn by Octavia Butler.
